 NYMC

CEO - Ryuta Arishima

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to view my profile.

I was raised in Japan within an international academic environment, which allowed me to develop a global perspective from an early age. For my university studies, I moved to New York City, where I continued to pursue both artistic and professional ambitions.

Throughout my life, I have been deeply drawn to a wide range of disciplines—including sports, business, and, most importantly, music. I later attended the College of Performing Arts at Mannes School of Music, where I studied violin performance and immersed myself in the world of classical artistry.

During this time, I came to a profound realization: classical music holds extraordinary cultural value, yet many talented musicians are not given the recognition, opportunities, or financial sustainability they truly deserve. I became determined to help reshape that reality and contribute to a future in which classical music is more widely celebrated, accessible, and respected on a global scale.

This vision led me to found NYMC (New York Music Competition)—an organization created to establish a new standard in classical music competitions, one that honors not only technical excellence but also individuality, passion, and artistic depth.

The name NYMC reflects where this journey began: New York City, the place where the concept was first imagined and where my commitment to elevating the classical music world truly took form.

What We Value

We are a new-generation classical music competition redefining what excellence truly means. While traditional standards have long equated greatness with technical flawlessness, we look beyond perfection to the humanity behind the performance. We listen for devotion, passion, and the countless hours—indeed, the lived experiences—that bring an artist to the stage. In a single phrase, we can hear how one has prepared, struggled, and grown, and that depth is what makes classical music timeless and profoundly human. When an artist is able to communicate that truth with authenticity, they deserve to be recognized as the winner. At the same time, we believe the cultural and economic value of classical musicians must evolve. If athletes can be celebrated on a global stage and rewarded accordingly, there is no reason classical artists should not be afforded the same stature. It is time to set a new standard—and we are here to lead that change.
